One of the missions we have here at the credit union is to be active in the communities we serve. The big event in Southern Illinois this time of year is the HerrinFesta Italiana. Located in Herrin, Illinois, the Festa draws crowds from surrounding areas. This year, one of our senior tellers is competing in the HerrinFesta Scholarship Pageant and we couldn’t be more proud of her.
Andrea Middleton, a senior teller at our Giant City Road location, will compete with other women from Southern Illinois for the $5,000 scholarship award. SIU Credit Union is sponsoring Andrea in the pageant.
Andrea has won other crowns and we wish her well in her upcoming competition.
The event is 7 p.m., May 24, at the Herrin Civic Center.
SIU Credit Union President and CEO Dennis Schaefer was sworn in to the Illinois Credit Union League (ICUL) board of directors Thursday at the league’s annual Delegates’ Meeting by Chairman John Bratsakis in Chicago.
Schaefer was elected at the Jan. 28 meeting of the Egyptian Chapter.
On Saturday, we joined other supporters for Relay for Life in Carbondale. While the weather forced the event indoors, it was still an awesome opportunity to come together as a community to raise money for Cancer research. The credit union team raised over $3,000 and fundraising is still ongoing. Our hope is to top last year’s donation of $4,000.
From Kiss the Pig, to being the Credit Union Night Sponsor, our employees contributed lots of hours raising money.
If you’d like to make a donation to Relay for Life, you can drop it off at any branch location.
Today our Relay for Life team raised $638.43 with our kiss the pig fundraiser. Whichever senior manager had the most money in their jar had to kiss a pig. Our Vice President of Operation, Kim Babington won with $374.63.
While the event was fun and the weather was great to grill hot dogs for our members, we’re reminded of the ongoing fight to cure cancer. We’re honored to play a part in that goal and will continue to raise funds at the local level for the American Cancer Society. Afterall, credit unions are all about people helping people.
On Wednesday, April 21 at 5:45 p.m., we’ll open our doors to Relay for Life teams participating in the Jackson County event to turn in their money they have collected so far. And on Saturday, April 24, our Relay team will be walking the track of Carbondale
Community High School with other members participating in Relay for Life. We hope to see you there.
